This winter has been one for the books. A lot of records were broken in many different states for the amount of snow, the low temperatures, and the heavy winds. All of these things have taken a toll on your home, and your roof could pay the price for all of that crazy weather. Many people are going to need a roof replacement this spring to help recover from the damaging conditions this winter. The following warning signs from your home mean that there is a good chance you need aroof replacementor at least some serious repairs.
Loose or Missing Shingles
Freezing temperatures and heavy winds are a bad combination for roofs. Many homes will have lost shingles in all of that crazy weather. You can do a quick inspection to see if your home is the victim of missing or loose shingles. There is a very obvious pattern to the way shingles are laid. Take a look at your roof to see if you can spot any variation in this pattern. That will be a big sign that you need a good repair for sure. If the damage is severe enough, then you might need a full replacement.
The whole point of having a good roof is to keep the wind and moisture from Mother Nature outside of your home. If there are big drafts or leaks coming from the roof, then this means something has gone wrong. A professional inspection can identify what went wrong and can give you a good idea of what will need to be done to fix the issue.
Bent or Warped Siding
Your siding and your roof have a very close relationship. If something goes wrong with your roof, then there is a very good chance that the siding around the roof will also be damaged in some way. The same can be said for the other way around. If you are noticing loose or warped siding along the roof line, then there is a very good chance that some issues with the roof are to blame.
Even if your shingles were able to stay put, they could be very damaged. This can happen when the materials get too cold, or experience rapid changes in temperature. This is more common in older shingles, but can happen to any roofing material with extreme conditions. If you have a lot of broken, chipped, curling, or cracked shingles, then you will need to replace all damaged shingles. The bad news of this condition is that if it occurs at all, it generally affects enough of the roof to necessitate replacing the whole thing.
